Dr. Tracy Scull (Principal Investigator) and Dr. Janis Kupersmidt (Co-Investigator) have received a Phase II SBIR contract from the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) to continue the development of Media Detective Family (MDF), a web-based and tablet media literacy education program for families with elementary school-aged children. The goal of MDF is to encourage families to practice critical thinking skills about the media that they encounter every day, so that children will be more likely to make healthy decisions to abstain from alcohol and tobacco use. The effectiveness of the MDF program for improving youth outcomes will be evaluated in rural communities in two U.S. states.
