Durham, NC, March 25, 2021 – innovation Research & Training is ecstatic to announce Dr. Alison Parker’s appointment to the NCFASD Informed Board of Directors.
NCFASD Informed is a non-profit organization of all volunteers with the mission “to create FASD informed communities to empower individuals impacted by prenatal exposure to alcohol.” The organization is dedicated to raising awareness of Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) in the community; this awareness may lead to an increase in the number of diagnostic opportunities for individuals with FASD as well as support and resources for individuals and their families.
Dr. Parker is a Research Scientist II and Vice President of Operations at innovation Research & Training. Her experience as a developmental psychologist and mindfulness practitioner spans fourteen years. Her most recent projects include federal grants and contracts with the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, National Institute on Disability, Independent Living, and Rehabilitation, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Specifically, Dr. Parker was the Principal Investigator on a contract to develop and evaluate Aware for Teens with FASD, an online mindfulness-based program for adolescents with FASD. She was also a member of the FASD Collaborative of North Carolina during its tenure. As part of the Collaborative’s intervention subcommittee, she assisted with identifying resources and interventions for children and adolescents with FASD.
As an NCFASD Informed board member, Dr. Parker will provide her expertise to help with educating others about FASD as well as identifying resources and supports for individuals with FASD and their families.
