Media Ready is an evidence-based, instructor-led program designed to teach middle school students how to critically analyze media messages about alcohol and nicotine products to prevent underage substance use.

The Media Ready teacher training workshop series consists of three, three-hour, interactive Zoom sessions designed to train workshop participants in how to teach the Media Ready program with fidelity to students. Trainees will learn and practice media literacy skills, including how to logically analyze ads and other media messages. They will learn about the research on the effectiveness of media literacy education for preventing substance misuse, including research conducted on the Media Ready program.

Trainees will also experience the program, be taught implementation strategies for each lesson, and analyze how each lesson is designed to increase critical thinking skills and prevent substance misuse. Instructors receive a Certificate of Completion for attending the training and passing the certification test that they will complete following the training.
