OVERVIEW
Abbey is a PhD student at North Carolina State University in the department of Applied Social Psychology. Her current research interests are examining how stress from racism and/or discrimination impacts the physical health of Black people as well as exploring various physical and psychological protective mechanisms for their health. Abbey has gotten the opportunity to co-author papers published in various journal including Journal of Psychosomatic Medicine (in press), Psychology of Women Quarterly, Experimental Aging Research, and Epilepsy & Behavior. She has also gotten experience applying to various grants and awards since starting at NC State in the Fall of 2022. Abbey is currently working as an intern on the development of an interactive training to promote cultural competency in youth mentors. Abbey is thrilled to get the opportunity to intern at iRT and get experience applying the research skills she’s gained thus far to create meaningful products that will hopefully benefit the individuals who will get to use them! Outside of work, Abbey enjoys taking Lagree classes, paddleboarding, taking in the beautiful NC scenery, and spending time with friends and family!
