December 20, 2023, Durham, NC \u2013 iRT is pleased to announce that it received the 2023 Diamond Award from LearnX\u00ae<\/a> for Best Accessibility in the Best eLearning Design category for the Plan My Ride<\/em><\/a> eLearning course.<\/p>\n

The annual, international LearnX\u00ae Awards program recognizes the most innovative projects and technology solutions of the year that drive and support learning and talent development. Projects that receive a LearnX\u00ae Award have been carefully assessed through a quality-driven process and are awarded for the value they bring to enterprises of various structures and sizes.<\/p>\n

The Plan My Ride <\/em>course received a Diamond Award, the second highest accolade offered by LearnX\u00ae, for its accessibility and usability as well as its compliance with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG). Plan My Ride <\/em>is an interactive eLearning course, which can be delivered remotely or in conjunction with an in-person, instructor-led class, with the ultimate goal of improving new drivers\u2019 attitudes and perceived norms about impaired driving, self-efficacy to avoid distracted or impaired driving, and intentions to drive safely. The course goes beyond educating teens and young adults about the dangers of distracted and drug- or alcohol- impaired driving to include other conditions where drivers may be distracted such as using a cell phone while driving.\u00a0 In addition, young drivers are taught skills they can use to avoid driving while impaired or distracted.<\/p>\n

Young people who participate in the Plan My Ride <\/em>course complete interactive learning activities, videos, animations, self-reflections, and review activities so they can learn important planning, communication, and social skills to avoid driving distracted or impaired. Then, learners participate in two immersive 360-degree role-play scenarios to practice making decisions to avoid impaired driving and to apply skills they have learned in a safe, realistic virtual environment. During the development of the Plan My Ride<\/em>course, iRT prioritized the utilization of technologies and incorporation of features that are engaging and relevant to young people as well as accessible to users with a wide range of abilities and needs. The Plan My Ride <\/em>course was designed to be accessible from both computers and mobile devices. In addition, all videos, animations, and interactive activities within the course provide closed captioning, and all course content was designed to be compatible with screen readers.<\/p>\n

iRT strives to develop accessible, engaging eLearning courses to overcome inequities in education quality and promote the wellbeing of youth and young adults. We value partnerships with organizations and professionals that share our goals of delivering cutting-edge, accessible interventions that help improve equity, standardization, and scalability for our nation\u2019s youth. This mission is why iRT collaborated with D3 Training Solutions, LLC, to develop the Plan My Ride<\/em>course.
